The Jolly Blogger Award

Hello Followers and Fellow Bloggers!

I am surprised and greatly honored to have been nominated for the Jolly Blogger Award by Kate M. Colby. For those of you who haven’t heard of this particular award, the purpose is to bring light to, and honor those bloggers that have influenced you in some way or who you believe show exceptional blogging abilities. This award is a way of recognizing those bloggers that you believe deserve some notice!

If you have been nominated for the Jolly Blogger Award, here is what you need to do:

  1. Answer the twelve questions from your nominator
  2. Nominate ten bloggers
  3. Leave twelve questions for your nominees

Alright, here are my answers to the questions posed by Kate M. Colby:

What holiday do you celebrate this time of year?

Although, I generally do not celebrate holidays from a religious standing, I find that having the time to spend with family is extremely important. With this said, I do celebrate christmas but find it more of a time to spend with those I love, than a religious celebration.

Do you like holiday songs? If so, which is your favorite?

Since I work in retail at this moment, I don’t really like the traditional renditions of holiday songs (as I hear them every day starting in November). Although, I do find the classical versions quite nice, and in particular, I like the Trans Siberian orchestra’s versions.

What is your favorite holiday movie?

I remember being a kid and watching the old claymation holiday movies with my grandparents. I haven’t watched them in some time now, but if I had to chose a holiday movie that brings me some sense of nostalgia I would have to go with those.

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

My grandmother would always get this honey glazed ham from a local baker. Although, I don’t do anything special for Christmas dinner now, I always look back on that ham and wish I could find someone that could make one that compares.

If you could change one thing about the holiday season, what would it be?

My family is spread out all over the United States. I really wish that we could all get together and spend the holiday together as a family.

Do you prefer giving gifts or receiving them?

Well, it would be silly if I didn’t say I love receiving gifts. But my favorite thing, is when I find that perfect gift for my wife and I can’t wait for her to open it!

Do you prefer snowy or sandy Decembers?

Snowy! In my opinion, the more snow the better…unfortunately, this year in Maine, we had a rainy Christmas.

Besides December holidays, what is your favorite holiday?

My all time favorite holiday, is Halloween! My wife and I plan our costumes for months ahead of time!

If you could name a reindeer for Santa’s sleigh, what would you name it?

Humm…If I could name a reindeer, it would be “off”….only because it would be funny to hear “On, Dancer, on, Prancer, on, Off”

What is your favorite holiday-related book?

This is a tough choice, but if I had to chose one–because I’m a classicist–it would have to be The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. The reason for this is because my grandmother used to read it to me and my sister every year and once she even left a reindeer bell by the front door for me.

If you were to write a novel that took place around the holidays, what would the main idea behind it be?

If I had to create a holiday book, the idea would probably be a child who lives in an orphanage. One night he sees santa’s sleigh and sneaks into santa’s great satchel of gifts. However, the orphanage was santa’s last stop for the year and so the boy ends up back at the North Pole with santa. Once back at the North Pole, the boy is discovered by some elves in the stables, but due to it being the end of Christmas, santa does not have the energy or power to bring the boy back to his home. The boy is forced to spend the year with santa and thus finally finds a family.

Do you want to build a snowman?

Yes…
